****Rogue Rehab update 3/17/19****

This little Bufflehead was admitted to Tamarack Wildlife Center in Pennsylvania with a fractured wrist. They stabilized the bird but do not have facilities to treat diving birds long-term like we do at Lake Erie Nature & Science Center, so we work very closely with them. They have permission from the Pennsylvania Game Commission to do these transfers.

They had volunteers transfer the little dude over to us about a month ago where we continued the rehabilitation. Once the wing had healed we worked on the bird’s waterproofing and monitored weight gain. Well, Sunday was the day of release!!

Can anyone guess what sex it is (seems obvious) right? We’ll update you later. But until then, good luck out there little dude!

Also joining him was a Horned Grebe who had come in with a fractured upper bill. We waited for that to heal and then we dremeled the lower bill to make them even. Glad he made it back to the lake!
